I found the problem with my rotor after removing the motor plate from the housing. Apparently, there was quite a bit of rust on the inside of the rotor housing, and on the motor wires.
One of the wires broke off from the terminal strip during shipping. Here is how the lower rotator housing look after the motor plate was removed:. Clean up the rotator housings and the bottom ball bearing ring with the steel brush and wet sand paper. We are going to paint them. I noted that the inside top housing was free of rust, but the inside of the lower housing has quite a bit of rust on it. Water was apparently able to get inside the rotator and collect on the bottom housing at one point.
It may be a good idea to paint the inside of the bottom housing also. Use masking tape and mask off the ball bearing rails since you don't want the paint to get in there. Looking around the garage, I found some prime paint and an Off-White spray paint can left over from the NorCal 20 project. So that would be the color of my Alliance HD : Here is how the housing look after painting:. Amateur Radio Directory. Page 7. I recently purchased a very old Hd rotor.
The manual isn't a maintenance manual and therefore no help on what to do to take one apart and put it back together. I know Alliance is out of business and that Norm's Rotor has purchased remaining stock of parts I guess. The dial of. The Alliance Tenna Rotor U is a fully automatic unit.
The dial lights up when the direction is selected and turns off when the antenna reaches that position. Alliance HD controller troubleshooting? Hello, My venerable HD stopped working. I've done the continuity checks suggested in the manual I have for it and it passes the checks. I suspect the controller has a problem. The meter lamp illuminates at power on but neither the meter or antenna move when the rocker switch is activated.
Do any of you know which wires should have current when the rocker switch is activated and how much current should appear on the appropriate wire? Figured I'd ask here before I take a look in the box. AE7F , May 23, Last edited: May 23, The HD has an improved automatic brake action for simplified operating procedure which also reduces risk of Antenna damage by sudden stops imposing high inertia stresses on the Antenna , tower and rotator. This presents a one revolution per minute speed for rotating over an extended arc and a slower speed for adjustment of, say, several degrees one way or the other for fine adjustments for the best signal on receiving and transmitting.
The rotator not only has a readily accessible externally located fuse for total unit protection, it also has an internally mounted automatic reset thermal protector for the motor and transformer against shorts or possible connection error or prolonged operation.
I he meter direction indicating voltage supply is solid state voltage regulated for meter indication accuracy regardless of wide line voltage or load variation; the regulating range is to volts. The HD rotor was designed to operate antennas with a maximum of User Manual.
